HLSERVER Version 2.76                                           July 1998
=========================================================================

1. Additions to the printed manual
2. HL-Server on WfW 3.11 using MS-TCP/IP 32

1. Additions to the printed manual
   ===============================

- The NetWare Bindery is no longer used to find HL-Servers on different
  network segments, so HL-Servers may be used network-wide without a
  Novell fileserver.

- There are several Versions of HL-Server: the DOS TSR, an NLM for
  NetWare 3.11, 3.12, 4.x, a 32bit Windows application for Windows 95
  and a service for Windows NT. They are identical in functionality,
  but offer increased comfort (automatic addition of Hardlocks, up to
  ten Hardlocks concurrently, TCP/IP support). See their README files
  for more information.

- In the HL-Server menu surface, the display for Remote/Select and
  Remote/Rescan has changed slightly: The network protocols for the
  listed HL-Servers are abbreviated to the first letter (i=IPX, s=SAP,
  n=NetBios).

- A Hardlock memory test has been added for Application Hardlocks. Since
  the HL-Server Hardlocks are only delivered with memory, there must be
  something wrong if memory cannot be found. For using Demo mode, the
  29809 Hardlock doesn't need memory.

- HLSERVER.HLP is now included in HLSERVER.OVL

- Adjustable mailbox size

  All data packets HL-Server receives through the network are passed to
  a queue ("mailbox"), which is read out by the hardlock process. The
  default size of this mailbox is 16 entries, this will be the best
  value in most environments. If you are using HL-Server with a very small
  or a very large number of clients, you may change this value. Each
  additional mailbox entry increases the resident size by approx. 400
  bytes. The setting of the mailbox size must be specified at
  installation time. The value may range from 6 to 128.

  Examples: HLSERVER -i -m12345 -b:6 ;for very few users
              HLSERVER -i -m12345 -b:40 ;for a great number of users

  Normally, you should not change the default setting unless you run
  into performance problems.

- Optional midnight time correction.
  The midnight time correction deleted in version 2.20 was re-introduced
  for optional use. It my be enabled by -MTC or -MIDNIGHT switch at the
  command line. You should not use it unless it is absolute nessesary.

- "Current Usage" display in the Status/Main menu
  Do not concern the displayed percentage as a linear growing value.
  When using HL-Server on a slow machine, there will be a threshold
  where more packets are received than could be processed. In this
  situation, the HL-Server packet buffers will be filled up in a short
  time and produce an overload situation. This threshold depends on the
  load put onto the HL-Server computer by any specific forground
  application, so it cannot be determined by HL-Server.

2. HL-Server on WfW 3.11 using MS-TCP/IP 32
   ========================================

- New command line option -x1
  This option circumvents problems arising when using
  NetBIOS over the MS-TCP/IP transport.

  ** CAUTION: If HL-Server was once started WITHOUT the -x1 option, **
  ** the computer must be rebooted to allow a working **
  **          installation of HL-Server WITH -x1 !                  **

  Example: HLSERVER -m29809 -x1

- Recommended settings for the HL-Server PIF file:

    First page of settings:

      Execution:  [x] Background

    Advanced:

      Background Priority: 100
      Foreground Priority: 100

      [ ] Detect Idle Time (unchecked !!)
